Centenary talk by Professor Richard Susskind: “The Future of the Bar”

09/06/21

Wednesday 9 June at 5.30pm online     The recording of the talk is here

Richard Susskind – author of books such as The Future of the Professions (with his son, Daniel Susskind); Tomorrow’s Lawyers; The End of Lawyers; Transforming the Law; The Future of the Law and, most recently, Online Courts and the Future of Justice – is the world’s most cited author on the future of legal services. He has been the IT Adviser to the Lord Chief Justice since 1998, and is, amongst many other roles, the Chair of the Online Dispute Resolution Group of the Civil Justice Council, the President of the Society for Computers and Law and the Chair of the Advisory Board of the Oxford Internet Institute.

2021 marks the centenary of Brick Court Chambers which presents an opportunity, alongside reflection on the past hundred years, to consider what the future holds for the individual barrister and the Bar as a whole.

Please join us for a talk on precisely that subject from Professor Susskind, which will be followed by discussion/Q&A, which will feature the thoughts in response to Professor Susskind’s talk of: Sir Nicholas Green (Lord Justice of Appeal, Chair of the Law Commission); Alex Chalk MP (barrister and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Justice); Sue Prevezer QC (Brick Court Chambers); and Christa Band (Linklaters).

We welcome and encourage donations via the Virgin moneygiving link here on our centenary pages to our four excellent centenary charities: The Sutton Trust; IntoUniversity; the Access to Justice Foundation; and Advocate.
