Ian Gatt KC is an experienced mediator having been accredited by CEDR in 1997.   He has broad experience after nearly 40 years in private practice at all levels of the English courts system - as a barrister for 20 years and as a partner in Herbert Smith Freehills for 12 years, and Stewarts, a specialist UK disputes practice, for 7 years.

  • MEDIATION M

    Ian’s mediation practice spans a wide range of practice areas.  He has mediated substantial commercial disputes (both domestic and international) across a wide range of sectors, as well as domestic and international employment disputes relating to bonus payments, sex, race and disability discrimination, whistleblowing and breach of contract and unfair dismissal claims. He has mediated ecclesiastical disputes and disputes between academics and their educational establishments.

    Ian acted for the Intervenors (The Civil Mediation Council, CEDR and The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators) in the landmark case of Churchill v Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council [2023] EWCA Civ 1416.
