Report of Pollard Review into dropped Newsnight Savile Investigation Released

19/12/12

The BBC Trust has today published the conclusions of the review by former Head of Sky News Nick Pollard of matters surrounding a dropped Newsnight investigation which featured allegations of sexual abuse by Jimmy Savile.

The Review sought to establish whether there were any failings in the BBC's management of the relevant investigation, including the broadcast of tribute programmes on Jimmy Savile on the BBC. The BBC Trust also subsequently asked the Review to investigate how inaccuracies appeared in a blog about the investigation and how the corrections to that blog were handled. The Review was conducted over nine weeks, and its 185 page report makes a number of findings and recommendations. The BBC has accepted the Review's findings without reservation, and has committed to implementing its recommendations as a matter of urgency.

The review and BBC response is here.

Alan Maclean QC, Richard Blakeley and Malcolm Birdling acted as counsel to the Review, instructed by Reed Smith.
