Harry Matovu KC recognised in the UK Powerlist 2023 for the third year in succession

31/10/22

Harry Matovu KC has been recognised for a third year in succession in the Powerlist 2023, the annual list of the 100 most influential people of African, African Caribbean and African American heritage in the UK.  Now in its 17th year, the Powerlist celebrates the work of Black leaders in several sectors, including business and the professions, media and entertainment, the arts, sciences, public and third sectors, and technology.

This year’s Powerlist, led by Dame Sharon White, Chair of John Lewis, was announced at a prestigious awards ceremony on 28 October 2022 sponsored by JP Morgan, PwC, Meta, The London Stock Exchange Group, the Executive Leadership Council, BP, the Bank of Nevis and Mastercard.  The list is selected by an independent judging panel, which assesses nominations according to strict criteria to identify people who have "the ability to positively alter events and change lives as demonstrated over a reasonable period of time".

Harry Matovu is recognised as one of the most influential Black individuals in the Politics, Law and Religion section for his work as the founder and principal of the Black Talent Charter.  Established in 2020, it is the only charter programme focused on Black talent in the UK financial and professional services sectors.  Its core objective is significantly to increase Black representation and progression in finance and the professions, so that those sectors become representative of the wider UK working population within 10 years (as opposed to the current trajectory of at least 30 years).  The Black Talent Charter is a cross-sectoral, collaborative initiative, which will provide substantial networks, evidence-based research and access to training, mentorship, cross-disciplinary forums and other programmes, both for corporate and professional leaders and for Black professionals, in order to ensure that the issues facing Black talent are understood, and that effective and practical solutions are identified and implemented by signatory organisations.  For further information, see here.

Brick Court Chambers is a proud supporter of the Black Talent Charter as part of its strong commitment to promoting equality and diversity at the Bar.
