Emma Mockford is amongst 14 barristers who feature in this year's Lawyer Hot 100.

Sought-after junior Emma Mockford of Brick Court started out as a solicitor at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer but the pull of advocacy drew her to the Bar in 2016. Mockford’s practice is varied, with her work commonly sitting in the fascinating intersection between the state regulation of power and the individual rights of people and businesses.

Mockford’s two main bedrocks of practice are public law and human rights on the one hand and competition law on the other. Mockford successfully acted for the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) in the case that concerned Meta’s acquisition of Giphy, resulting in the CMA ordering Meta to sell Giphy in October last year. She has also acted for the Road Haulage Association against five of the world’s largest truck manufacturers, the case of which is known as a part of the RoRo trucks cartel.

Mockford is currently acting for the Independent Monitoring Authority in a series of cases about citizen’s rights after Brexit, which raises many issues under the EU-UK Withdrawal Agreement about how you protect people residing in the UK post-Brexit and what their rights are.
