Challenge to housing benefit reforms rejected

15/02/13

Mr Justice Underhill today dismissed a judicial review claim challenging the Government's reforms to housing benefit. The anti-poverty NGO Zacchaeus 2000 Trust had said that the reforms, capping increases by reference to CPI inflation, were ultra vires and vitiated by a failure, contrary to s. 149 of the Equality Act 2010, to have due regard to equality considerations.

An application for permission to appeal is to be determined on the papers.

The judgment is here.
