Snap election in UK leaves arbitration and funding reforms in limbo

30/05/24

Global Arbitration Review, 30/5/24

Salim Moollan KC, who was part of a Brick Court Chambers team including Lord Hoffmann and Sir Richard Aikens who contributed to the bill, tells GAR: “This is of course disappointing news.”

“The bill did however require some final tweaks, in particular to deal with the law applicable to investment arbitrations seated in England and Wales, and could in any event not have been rushed to enactment in its current form. I think it is fair to say that there is general hope that it can still be finalised and passed in short order after the elections given its uncontroversial nature.”
